Keep calm and eat cake!

  • Posted

Paragon Costs Solutions hosted a very successful Coffee Morning, one of the many held nationally on 27th September 2013 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

It was ‘cakes at dawn’ for the many bakers who provided the numerous sweet treats to be sold in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

To tempt attendees and cake lovers into supporting Macmillan and donating as many of their pennies as possible, there was a baked vanilla cheesecake, red velvet cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake and iced cupcakes, savoury breakfast muffins (which sold like hot cakes!) and gargantuan slabs of rocky road. There was even a gluten free chocolate cake for those whose palate often leaves them bereft of cake like foods!

Rumour has it there was a lemon drizzle cake, however, it was virtually sold whole (minus one end slice) so it can only be surmised that it was very good! Yum!

In addition to selling the many cakes, Paragon Costs Solutions sold raffle tickets for entry into the Macmillan Prize Draw in November 2013 (you can win a car!) and a game of ‘guess the number of coffee beans in the jar” was also played. It was revealed that the number of beans in the jar was 2230! The lucky and very charitable Robert Barnes of Thrings won with a guestimate of 2227! Robert has kindly donated his winnings to Macmillan (and as a reward for being so charitable Robert was gifted another piece of cake!).

The morning was a resounding success with a total of £280.00 raised before elevenses. In addition to the monies raised from the coffee morning, additional money from the coinciding dress down day will be added to the pot and a sum from the Charity Committee to boost the overall sum!

Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical, financial and medical support to those who are affected by cancer. Macmillan strive for better cancer care and helps those who are affected by cancer – whether they have cancer or have a loved one who has been diagnosed.

“One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.”

Macmillan Cancer Support is a team worth eating your weight in cake for!!

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who came and supported our coffee morning, donating substantially and we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

You can check how much Macmillan raises through the coffee morning events on their website.
